This is your opportunity to grow! Building & Earth Sciences, Inc. is a growing Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Materials Testing firm located in Birmingham, AL. We have 15 Branch Office locations throughout the Southeast. The Accounting Department needs an additional Accountant to help manage our increase in business and staff.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and about 5 years of professional experience. This position will require IN-OFFICE work during normal business hours in our Birmingham Corporate Office located in the Irondale area.
Duties of the Position
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Competencies)• Demonstrated knowledge of applied leadership skills, abilities and best practices.• Ability to communicate effectively with a thorough knowledge of business English, spelling, arithmetic and vocabulary. Communications must be open and honest in keeping with Building & Earth open communication philosophy.• Ability to create accounting data and tables for presentations to management team.• Ability to create and maintain accurate and confidential records and data and to prepare easily understandable reports for distribution. • Ability to organize, coordinate and prioritize tasks and schedules.• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, clients and client representatives and the general public with a focus on maintaining a Customer/Client focus at all times.• Ability to dress, speak and act professionally & appropriately.• Ability to deal with stressful situations, multiple priorities and hectic schedules calmly and courteously.• Skilled in the use of computers and common software applications, including ability to learn company specific software applications.• Skilled in financial management and problem solving/analysis.• Ability to work ethically, honestly and safely at all times.
Physical Requirements1. Must be able to work, move, or carry objects or materials up to 20 lbs.2. Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/verbal communications in the English language, including the ability to communicate directly and over the telephone and be understood.
Minimum Education, Training and/or Experience• College degree in accounting.• Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office or other spreadsheet software.• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in related field.• Advanced knowledge of Excel or other related spreadsheet software.
Special Requirements1. Possession of a completed BS or MS degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.2. Possession of a valid state of residence driver’s license. 3. Ability to be insured under all applicable Corporation insurance policies.
Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis position is a full-time placement with work attendance in the Birmingham headquarters building.
TravelFrequent or periodic travel is not likely in this position.
